You know those wooden dinosaur skeleton models you can buy from museum gift shops, that are usually simple and variably off-model? I used to have a tripod Tyrannosaurus back when I was a kid decades ago.
So there's a company in Chile that makes those, but scientifically accurate! Wonder Artistic Models. I've known about them for couple years now, I think, but after losing my job couldn't afford to buy one.
Untill now.
They had a pretty big discount campaign last month and hey, guess how that went.

Oh, boy, let's see how well this goes!

I keep forgetting to cross-post stuff on here but I've been working on lasercut wooden standees of dioramas in addition to the mirror and photo frame versions I showed earlier. I will be posting an interest check for everything, hopefully later this week (just need to finish making the samples for pictures) so stay tuned!

Interest check
My friend has the ability to make laser cut wood pieces. She made this for me (my name is Valerie)
Tumblr media
But she can also make just 1 of these and turn it into a keychain. They're coated with resin and have a black backing.
Tumblr media
Would you like her to sell these or a similar item on her etsy page? Perhaps something of another franchise? Something more unique of her own design? Or even one of your own original works burned into wood?
My recommendation to her was to do some of the most popular animes, like AoT, BNHA, Jujustu Kaisen, DBZ, Naruto, etc
Please leave a comment! ♡

Sustainable Practices in Using a Wood Laser Cutter for Eco-Friendly Projects
Tumblr media
The advent of the wood laser cutter has revolutionized woodworking, offering precision and versatility previously unattainable. But with great power comes great responsibility. As we become more environmentally conscious, the need for sustainable practices in every field, including woodworking, is paramount. In this blog, we'll explore how to use a wood laser cutter in an eco-friendly manner, ensuring that our creative endeavors contribute positively to the environment. You can visit us at JGW Machine for more information
Understanding the Eco-Impact of Wood Laser Cutting
The first step in adopting sustainable practices is understanding the environmental impact of using a wood laser cutter. These machines, while efficient, consume energy and can produce waste. However, with thoughtful practices, their ecological footprint can be minimized.
Choosing Sustainable Materials
One of the most significant aspects of eco-friendly laser cutting is the choice of material. Opting for sustainably sourced wood, such as bamboo or reclaimed wood, can drastically reduce the environmental impact. These materials not only prevent deforestation but also often require less energy to process, making them ideal for use with a wood laser cutter.
Optimizing Design for Minimal Waste
Efficient design plays a crucial role in sustainability. By optimizing designs to fit more pieces into a single sheet of wood, waste can be significantly reduced. Using software to plan cuts strategically not only conserves material but also saves energy by reducing the amount of time the wood laser cutter is in operation.
Eco-Friendly Power Sources
The energy consumption of a wood laser cutter can be a concern when it comes to sustainability. Utilizing renewable energy sources, such as solar power, to run the cutter can make a substantial difference. Additionally, investing in energy-efficient models can further reduce the environmental impact.
Proper Ventilation and Air Quality Control
Laser cutting wood can release fumes and particulate matter. Ensuring proper ventilation in the workspace is essential for both health and environmental reasons. Using air filtration systems can minimize the release of these byproducts into the environment.
Repurposing and Recycling Laser-Cut Waste
Waste generated from laser cutting doesn’t have to end up in a landfill. Offcuts and sawdust can be repurposed or recycled. Sawdust, for instance, can be used in composting or as mulch, while larger offcuts can be used in other creative projects.
Maintenance for Longevity
Regular maintenance of a wood laser cutter is crucial for sustainable use. Proper care and timely repairs can extend the life of the machine, thereby reducing the demand for new equipment and the associated environmental burden of manufacturing.
Educating and Sharing Knowledge
Spreading awareness about sustainable practices in laser cutting is vital. Workshops, online tutorials, and community projects can educate users about eco-friendly techniques, encouraging a collective effort towards a more sustainable future.
Investing in Community and Collaboration
Collaboration can lead to more sustainable practices. Sharing a wood laser cutter among a community or workspace can maximize its use and minimize the need for multiple machines. This shared approach not only fosters community but also reduces overall energy consumption and waste.
The Role of Manufacturers in Sustainability
Manufacturers of wood laser cutters also play a role in sustainability. By producing energy-efficient models and offering support for repairs and maintenance, they can help reduce the environmental impact of their machines.
Case Studies: Eco-Friendly Projects Using a Wood Laser Cutter
Highlighting successful eco-friendly projects can inspire others. From art installations using reclaimed wood to practical items made with minimal waste, these case studies can showcase the potential of sustainable laser cutting.
Future Trends: Eco-Innovations in Laser Cutting
The future looks bright for eco-friendly laser cutting. Innovations in technology, such as improved energy efficiency and the use of sustainable materials in the construction of wood laser cutters, will further enhance their sustainability.
Conclusion
Using a wood laser cutter in an environmentally friendly way is not only possible but essential in today’s world. By choosing sustainable materials, optimizing designs, using renewable energy, and adopting other eco-friendly practices, we can ensure that our creative endeavors with a wood laser cutter contribute positively to the environment. Embracing these practices not only benefits the planet but also enriches our work, adding an extra layer of meaning and responsibility to our creations.
Call to Action
Are you ready to embark on your eco-friendly journey with a wood laser cutter? Explore sustainable materials, adopt efficient designs, and join a community that values environmental responsibility. Together, we can make a difference, one laser-cut piece at a time.

Since I bough a laser cutter. I always wanted to make a 絵馬(ema - small wooden plaques, common in Japan to write your wish, dream and goals)
This one I made is a Summer greetings card called 暑中見舞(Shochūmima) originally it’s common to send a gift box which is usually sent to family, friends who you haven’t seen for a long time and people who has been close and helpful wishing them a safe summer.
But though a unique card is fun to send and receive as will.

Laser Cut Botupa
First, I drew a Lineart Botupa on a flash card (at a Dunkin' Donuts), then I scanned that drawing, and had a laser cutter at the Melbourne Maker Space to put that drawing on this piece of wood. I needed something to put it on, so I made that little holder out of some hard wood and gave it a nice stain.
